This painting is of my friend Robin. Robin and I lived together in a community house that held me well for the first six months after I returned to Asheville, NC from being in art school in Ireland for a year. I needed a place where I was surrounded by dear friends and the Zebra House proved to be just that. I’m so thankful for Robin and her playfulness and laughter.
I wrote this to her upon the completion of this painting:
Black walnut ink and blood root on foraged Zebra House movie screen.
Robin! I honor you. Thank you for your beautiful spirit and your face! You amaze me. I'm in awe of all you've been through this past year and how gracefully and courageously you've handled it all. Thank you for keeping me company during my first days in my studio! What a sweet transition. So grateful. So grateful to have been able to live with you, paint with you, tour graffiti art with you, hear your stories and your unique insights. I'm honored to be your friend. Much love to you! —2016.
