Natural Dyeing: July 29-July 30

$200.00

Bakersville, NC

12pm-4pm both days.

Friday, July 29-Saturday, July 30

2023.

This class with be my second round of teaching natural dyeing. I attended Catherine Ellis and Joy Boutrup’s weaving and natural dyeing class at Penland School of Crafts during the second summer session of 2023 (this summer) and learned such an abundance of beautiful information that I wanted to share it with others. That said, this simple two-day class will be for the beginner natural dyer as well as anyone who wants a refresher of the basics. We will focus on how to prepare cellulose (cotton, linen, hemp) fabric before dyeing and give a brief overview of preparing protein (wool, silk) fibers (which is much easier). Then we will begin dyeing in a variety of different dye baths. I will not guarantee the colors or plants that we will use here, in case there are any last minute changes, but I will make every effort to provide a sampling of the primary colors. I do have an indigo vat that is already going, so we will use that as well as talk about how to start one of your own. I hope you can join us!

This is an in person class at my home in Bakersville, NC. The address will be shared with those who sign up. We will try and have the class outside weather permitting. If it rains, we will move inside or on the front covered porch area.

Please bring some cotton and wool to experiment with.
