This painting is of my dear friend Elena. She is a wise soul. We took this photograph in the stairwell of a shared house where she was a visiting friend of all who lived there. She was one of the first women I asked to participate in my quest for female portraits of my friends. She readily agreed and was a delightful subject. As she burst into laughter, I got this shot. Elena shared with me these wise words in a letter sometime later,

“I don’t know what will come next, but it is becoming clearer that it isn’t really up to me to direct my life but rather to follow the places of resonance and call upon my courage to go deep where I am guided.”
