Original painting : was made in Ireland in 2015 with blackberries I foraged myself. I was also hand embroidered and painted over with local beeswax. It remains in Ireland with its owner.

The story of this painting: I created this painting as the first in a series of seven self-portraits. The whole series was painted with blackberries foraged from the west coast of Ireland. When I stand back and take a look at this series of paintings, I see my inner world unfold. There are deep shadows and bright lights. There are “Turns”. There is “Quiet”. There is “Darkness” and there are moments of entering “Into the Light”. This is how the series unfolded. It was as if it had a message for me that it spoke back to me after all the paintings had been painted. This painting is especially meaningful to me because it was the first. I hope that as you bring it into your home and live with it, you will be reminded to turn towards your light as well. Every moment of life holds the opportunity for us to turn.
